Who is "Paul Roberts" The Magician?

Paul Roberts • 24 August 2025

The Paul Roberts Magic Story.

Paul Roberts Best UK Award Winning Magician.

I was born in May 1966 in Wrexham.

My Parents where Patricia and Gwynfor Roberts. Later my Mum Re Married Neville White (my hero)

My sister is Gaynor Roberts.

I grew up in a place called Queens Park, which at the time was a rough place to live.

Later on, it changed its name to Cia park.

My life back then was tough.

The world was very different back then. Very different.

Sometimes good and often not so good.

After my parents separated we eventually moved to a place called Gresford.

I spent my childhood swimming in rivers, climbing trees, skateboarding and listening to to the top 20 on the radio.

Our family never really had any money.  Throughout school, as soon a trip abroad was mentioned, my hand would shoot up, only to be told when I got home, that we couldnt afford it.

I kinda got used to after a while. I would still go home though and ask the question.

Later on, I got into Breakdancing and Body Popping (pic below)

A few years later, I went on tour with Hunter (James Crossley" from Gladiators, as a Robot Dancer and we toured with names such as Ant and Dec, Peter Andre, Sonya, Blair to name but a few, and we had a TV Spot with me Hunter and Ruby Turner, performing Hunters song "Shakaboom"

School was kinda weird for me too. I found it very difficult to retain information. Nothing seemed to resonate with me. I think that teaching methods should change, because I could listen to music and remember instantly, the lyrics of a song, but maths, history geography science etc, just never seemed to sit in there. I wasnt in the lowest set in school. I think I was lucky to get through Kinda in the middle.

One of my friends and I know he wouldnt mind me mentioning him, was called Paul and was in the lowest set. He left school with no qualifications. I saw him once in a pub at a darts match.

A guy was about to throw think he needed 99 to win, and Paul, the unteachable, the guy in the lowest set in school, looked at the dart board and said, you need you need treble 18 - 5 and double top (which is double 20) for none dart players He was spot on!! . I asked Paul, how did you know that?

He said, I just look at the board and its obvious. Suddenly this guy is a maths genius......

Maybe teaching methods should change!!!

Below is a pic of me and some buddies going camping.

When I left school I tried to get information on magic but it was such a closed shop. The library had the odd book on it, but never really gave me what I was looking for. I began watching every magic show aired on TV at the time, and for the first 5 years, I never showed anyone what I had learnt because I didnt think I was any good. A chance encounter, led me to getting some information about a magic circle, called the Chester Guild Of Magicians. I arranged to go down and meet up with like minded people. At last, after 5 years.

Next month was their close up magic competition. I was told I should enter.

I was working 12 hour days at the time for an engineering company, but I would get up at 5am every morning and practice for 45 mins before work. Then come home and practice again.

I turned up for the competition, shaking like a leaf, entered and won. The practice paid off. I was performing difficult sleights with cards and coins, much to the amazement of my new found magic friends.

Then I entered the stage comp and won that too. This continued for a while in Chester, Stoke and the North Wales magic circle. After being made an honorary  member of the North Wales Magic Circle and The International Brotherhood of Magicians, I now no longer compete, but help competitors should they require.

Pic below of me being a bit dramatic whilst performing for the IBM.

Going back in time a little, I remeber watching David Nixon, Tommy Cooper, Paul Daniels, David Copperfield and a gentleman called Wayne Dobson. (Who I did a tour of Texas and colorado with!!!!

Back then, I would study and learn eveything about every aspect of magic.

I began performing in night clubs for drunk people (in at the deep end) and then began working for agents at corporate events up and down the country.

By chance, did an event for a theme park in Chorley called Camelot. It went so well, that I stayed with them for 5 years, whilst also managing a magic shop in blackpool too. It was exhausting as for 5 years, I basically had no time off except for christmas, but because of the theme park, I gained knowledge in Horse riding, fire eating and crowd warming techniques, and at the magic shop, I was getting so much product knowledge, it was insane.

These attributes led to to lecture and to perform for magicians worldwide as well as top companies, theme parks and Celebrities.

To this day, I still perform at various theme parks, such as Greenwood Forest Park, Manoravon Farm Park and The Crocky Trail.
